As a photographer I think it is imperative to always have the mindset that your best work is ahead of you, otherwise why bother? I am my own biggest critic and am always demanding more of myself, it’s how I continue to strive for perfection, and have a burning desire to get better at what I do.

I do however believe that this is the strongest and most engaging tiger portrait that I have ever taken.

Light is a vital component to any good photograph, and I was blessed with some of the best light that day — to leave without a shot would have been criminal, so I waited until he had finished his nap.

It was an intense encounter, his eyes were so full of menace that I felt my heart skip a beat, despite knowing that I was safe. He made it clear that he is king.
